Dog Complaints:
If you wish to file a formal complaint about a dog, be prepared to give our office the most information that you can. Please keep in mind, all of our work here is public knowledge. We cannot keep your name anonymous unless you can demonstrate a clear threat to your safety.

We need your name and address and as much information about the dog owner as possible. The more information (name, address, type of offense) that you can give the better we can do our job. We do not handle barking dogs, cats, or wildlife.

We have to see a violation to issue a citation, UNLESS you wish to sign a sworn statement. Keep in mind false statements can be prosecuted as perjury.

Due to budget constraints regarding overtime and staff limitations the dog warden's office does not respond to after-hours complaints except in the case of emergency dog bites.

Dog Warden Duties

Chapter 955 of the Ohio Revised Code

The owning of dogs is regulated by Ohio Law for the protection of citizens, and well-being of the dogs.

The Dog Wardens Office is in charge of registering all dogs in the county and picking up stray dogs reported running loose. We are also legally responsible for investigating livestock kills by dogs, coyotes and black vultures.

All other services are courtesy of the Dog Warden's Office, and are placed in priority to our State Legal Obligations

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based tool that is used to create a vast database of information compiled from various county agencies to build maps and track information. GIS is an essential instrument in building a united government.

The Adams Soil and Water Conservation District GIS office is committed to coordinating with and supporting all Adams County offices in an effort to maximize the use and availability of this versatile tool.

Maps can be customized with text, images and shapes.  Work created while using the ERIN GIS can be saved or shared with others.

The Adams County Department of Job and Family Services offers help with Cash Assistance (OWF), child care, child support, food assistance, health care (Medicaid), work support services through the Prevention, Retention, and Contingency (PRC) program, disability assistance, Learning, Earning, and Parenting (LEAP) services for teenage parents, adult protective services, and Medicaid transportation (NET).

OSU Extension Adams County extends the resources and knowledge base of The Ohio State University to the residents of Adams County. Extension conducts programs in four major areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Adams County is part of the ten-county Ohio Valley Extension Education and Research Area, which also includes Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Scioto, Ross, and Vinton counties.


More about Adams County 4-H: About 700 youth ages 5 and in kindergarten through age 18 belong to one or more of the county’s 30 community based 4-H clubs. These clubs are led by more than 135 adult advisors. 4-H members develop project skills and knowledge and develop life skills such as leadership and citizenship. Most clubs conduct one or more community service projects annually. The highlight of the year for many members is the opportunity to exhibit their projects at the Adams County Fair.

The Adams Waste and Recycling Center (AWAR) on 95 Trefz Road is a transfer station where residents can drop off their waste for a nominal fee and sell recyclables, non-ferrous metals, and some auto parts. Buy-back recycling payment rates are variable due to market dependency. 


•Materials we pay for – aluminum cans, scrap aluminum, copper brass, batteries, radiators, lead, alternators, starters, and more.

•Materials we take on donation – paper & cardboard, plastic bottles, glass bottles, steel, appliances, computers

•Other … Garbage is accepted for a fee of .08 per pound, and tires are accepted for fees (based on tire size) starting at $2.00 per tire.

Community Drop off Boxes – Community recycling boxes accept the following materials, and are available 24/7. Please wash all containers and throw away lids.

•Paper & Cardboard (newspapers,magazines, catalogs,office paper, junk mail, books,flattened cardboard boxes, cereal boxes, cracker boxes)
